8: The Mormon Proposition....

On monday night I was invited to a screening of 8: The Mormon Proposition.... The movie is about when California started to allow gay marriage until the Mormon Church had a televised/web conference with all the members of the Latter Day Saints church. How they need to support the church in not allowing fellow gay and lesbian citizens to marry. That is not in God's plan. That by allowing gays to marry the plan from god was going to hell. I want to get married one day. In the movie it follows two gay men that got married in California who got married but when prop 8 passed they were denied the same benefits as married couples. It was heartbreaking to see people cry and get upset that something they wanted so bad get it taken away. It's bullshit to have a religion that believe's that gay people are standing in the way of their cause, when they believe that they can take up many wives and have many children.

In the movie it also showed ex/former mormons gay or lesbian and the torture they went through while being there. Some were shocked, other beaten up or giving drinks to induce vomiting. It also went into details in what the measures the church went into to get this prop on the vote. How much money went into it. What lost the people of the Mormon church would get. The threats the people of the church would make. I recommend every gay man, lesbian, or person who supports gay rights to see this movie.

Pride....

I could go off on a blog post about pride. The pros and cons of it. I will save it for another time. Ok just one. I thing pride is a waste of time. It's just another excuse for really single gay men to get really drunk and hook up with someone. I have instead decided to volunteer and put on some fun raisers. With being part of the Seattle Frontrunner's we are putting on a Underwear Fashion Show. The money raised will go to the Chicken Soup Brigade. If you are in Seattle or planned to be there around that time please come support a wonderful cause! BTW I did the Art work below.. Pretty good right?

Clean house...

I like to think that I keep a really clean house. It might be in my DNA or the fact that I'm a Mo. But cleaning house is my thing. I have no need to feel manly and pull weeds from the yard or pick up the dog poo outside either. One thing since I moved in is that i feel like I live in John's house not our house. I want to ask the people who read my blog that are couples. How many of you live with your partner before you changed the house to the "our" status? Or is your home still the same way that you moved into. What about when you moved to another home, your first home. Did you have a say in what went where and the colors on the wall? We are thinking bout changing the house up.

I'm not a father, a grandpa or a family man. Some might say I'm not that much patriotic. As in owning an American flag. Getting excited when the fourth of July comes around. Wearing t shirts with "I'm patriotic or I love America." Those things are just to downgrading to me. Why should i express my how american I am. I think it's only an American thing to do.

But I do honor the men and women in the armed forces. The ones that are giving their lives to allow myself to have freedom. Today I am honoring my grand father Leroy Francis Ward. Father, Husband, Grandfather, Great-grandfather. And a war hero. My grandfather would tell me stories about servicing time in the war. How he shot a man and was shot. His stories live through me and my brothers. He was like a father to me. A good soul with a great big heart! He is missed.

So remember those in the past, the present and soon to be future. All the ones that have gave up their lives so we can live free.

When you see this man, what is the first time that comes to mind. Some might say Uncle Arthur from Bewitched. Other would says Harry McAfee in Bye Bye Birdie. I say Icon! A man that loved to use Double entedre such as ....

Mr. Lynde was a gay man. Best know as Uncle Arthur on Bewitched. He was in a relationship with his partner James "Bing" Davidson. Both were drinking heavily in their San Francisco hotel Sir Francis Drake Hotel. Where Bing fell out of the window eight stories and died at the age of 24. Than on Jan. 10, 1982, Lynde dies of a heart attack in his home in Beverly Hills.

The reason I am blogging about Mr. Lynde is that as a queer boy he was the first role model as a gay man I got. Watching him "Pop" in and out on Bewitched and just the way he talked. I would walk around the house waving my hands like his character Uncle Arthur. Without Mr. Lynde I would not be a flaming Queer!
